The Democratic Party of Lyons Township held its first annual Democratic Derby, inspired by the Kentucky Derby, on Wednesday, May 1st, as a springtime connection with the supporters of the organization. The gathering of Lyons Township Democrats took place at the American Legion Post 1941 in La Grange and brought together approximately 200 enthusiastic attendees.

Mint juleps were served to guests who wore Derby-inspired outfits such as seersucker suits and colorful hats, and the best dressed men and women were given awards for their incredible outfits. Democrats danced to live music from Charles Band and Brad Hides, enjoyed free drinks at the bar, and ate the delicious cookies and food provided before settling down for speeches given by Democratic Party of Lyons Township (DPLT) leadership and local elected officials.

Notably, Theresa Flynn, MWRD Board of Commissioners Vice President, spoke about her appreciation of the support of the DPLT and the things she’s been able to accomplish to improve Cook County and our township. Lyons Township Democratic Committeeman Steve Landek discussed the strength of the Party and the many local candidates who are endorsed by the DPLT or running under our banner to improve the lives of our residents.

The spectacular night of fun and political rallying was made possible by the event’s many sponsors.
