Young Democrats Mobilize a New Generation of Voters!

Young Democrats of Lyons Township meet Congressman Casten to discuss youth engagement in politics and issues impacting younger generations.

It’s easy to become comfortable with the status quo. After all, if it’s working for you, why change it? Why innovate? Why put resources into something new? Rather than become complacent, the Democratic Party of Lyons Township, under the leadership of Committeeman Steve Landek, is investing in the future of both the Democratic Party and our nation through the creation of the Young Democrats of Lyons Township organization. The Young Democrats are a coalition of young township residents primarily from Generation Z who are committed to building youth engagement in local politics and fighting for an inclusive, equitable, sustainable future.

Like Committeeman Landek, we believe that the world young people are inheriting requires a new, progressive generation of leaders driven to meet the moment. We are working hard to educate and organize young people to solve the problems we’re facing through local government and beyond at a time when the Democratic Party and our nation consider the intersection of age and politics.

With climate change, gun violence, and the removal of women’s rights posing imminent threats, it’s up to every voter, especially those of younger generations being disproportionately impacted, to take action and help build a better society. To paraphrase Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., there is an illusion that time solves problems. Truthfully, it’s the organizers, the communities, and all fighting to make positive change who drive the progress on every issue. Just as reproductive rights were granted, they were taken away, and we won’t get them back unless we fight for them again.

Quotes from Young Dems:

LTHS Student Jane Erickson“There are people running for political offices right now that care about the money, the power–not the people, not the economy, and not our world. I want to see someone in office that wants the younger generation to succeed.”

LTHS Student Jordyn Hoffenberg“Our generation is living in a world where home ownership seems like a fantasy, the cost of living is overwhelming, and climate change is an existential threat.”
