The Democratic Party of Lyons Township (DPLT) and Indivisible – La Grange, La Grange Park, Brookfield, and Western Springs chapters hosted a Presidential Debate Watch Party at Hillgrove Tap in Western Springs to see Vice President Kamala Harris make her pitch to the American people and verbally spar with Former President Donald Trump live on ABC News.
Indivisible leaders, Lyons Township Clerk Elyese Hoffenberg, and DPLT Young Democrats President Sean Kirchman spoke to a room full of more than 90 animated Harris-Walz supporters about the energy in the community and the ways to continue supporting the Democratic candidates nationally and locally. Members of Moms Demand Action attended as well, adding to the community groups working together towards positive change. After enjoying the appetizers, attendees turned their attention to the myriad of TV’s lining the walls.
Vice President Harris showed the nation the prosecutorial abilities she’s honed for years with a strong debate performance. She logically detailed her policy proposals to support small businesses, help first-time home buyers, and lower prescription drug costs while pointing out the ridiculousness of Trump’s falsehoods, some of which even the debate moderators debunked in real time. The animated watch party crowd cheered as Vice President Harris explained her view of what a wise, strong, and empathetic American President should look like, once again rallying Democratic enthusiasm and leaving a positive impression on many of the unsure voters around the country. The night was clearly both a national and local Harris win that translated to an influx of requests for the Democratic Party of Lyons Township Harris-Walz yard signs that Clerk Hoffenberg distributed at the event.
The Democratic Party of Lyons Township thanks our coalition partners and attendees for making the Presidential Debate Watch Party so successful!
