Democracy is shaped not just by history but by the choices we make in the present and by the way we show up for one another and our communities.
During a rare and special week in February, Fat Tuesday, Lunar New Year, and Paczki Day all arrived together; an overlap of traditions that beautifully reflects renewal, reflection, and the promise of what comes next. This year welcomes the Year of the Fire Horse, a once-in-60-years symbol of courage, energy, and bold change.
To honor that spirit, the remarkable leaders Patty Garcia, candidate for Congress, Latonya Mitts, candidate for State Representative, and Clerk Elyse Hoffenberg, candidate for Cook County Commissioner, came together to discuss the future with their communities. Real stewardship- the careful, proactive, and responsible management of resources and responsibilities entrusted to one’s care for the benefit of others-begins with passion for, and commitment to, our beautiful community. Community must be the focus when any decisions are made, whether that’s in the halls of the U.S. Congress, Springfield, or Cook County.
Local leaders coming together with the people they hope to represent accurately and effectively is the definition of leadership we need when so often the voices of the working-class are being ignored. Thank you to all who joined the event!
